Internet MIDI
Hardware and Software Requirements

Before getting technical, here are the essential specifications in plain English:

Internet MIDI is currently available for Macintosh OS X 10.4 or later (i.e. Tiger, Leopard, and Snow Leopard) and Windows 7, Vista and XP.

Your version of Windows may require that you download and install the free .NET framework from Microsoft. Installation of .NET is easy, and the Internet MIDI installer will guide you with the process.


The details:

Internet MIDI for Macintosh OS X 10.4 or later (including Snow Leopard):

The Macintosh version of Internet MIDI requires at least:

  • a broadband Internet connection with unimpeded throughput
  • a network configuration that allows peer-to-peer UDP communications
  • a Macintosh G4, G5, or Intel computer running OS X 10.4 (Tiger), 10.5 (Leopard), or 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
  • a computer monitor:
    • with 1024 x 768 or greater resolution
    • displaying thousands of colors or more
  • USB or Firewire MIDI interface (or MIDI keyboard with direct USB connection) and any necessary MIDI drivers
  • MIDI instrument
  • optional foot pedals for MIDI keyboard:
    • una corda (controller 67)
    • sostenuto (controller 66)
    • sustain (controller 64)

NOTE: In the Classroom Maestro module, the number and range of notes that can be displayed on the grand staff may be limited by the resolution of the monitor and the size of the Internet MIDI window. In order to see each of the 88 notes of the piano keyboard displayed vertically on the grand staff, it is necessary to display a full-size window on a 1024 x 768 or larger screen.

Internet MIDI for Windows 7, Vista, and XP:

The Windows version of Internet MIDI requires at least:

  • a broadband Internet connection with unimpeded throughput
  • a network configuration that allows peer-to-peer UDP communications
  • a Windows computer running Windows 7, Vista, or XP
  • .NET framework 3.5 or later from Microsoft (which will be installed automatically if necessary)
  • a computer monitor:
    • with 1024 x 768 or greater resolution
    • displaying thousands of colors or more
  • USB, Firewire, or joystick MIDI interface (or MIDI keyboard with direct USB connection) and any necessary MIDI drivers
  • MIDI instrument
  • optional foot pedals for MIDI keyboard:
    • una corda (controller 67)
    • sostenuto (controller 66)
    • sustain (controller 64)
